Our goal? Let Floridians decide future of our state

I had to write about the comments Mr. Ken Ferguson made about the Hometown Democracy. He called it a "scam" and made a claim that it is paying $10 for petition signatures. I am currently soliciting petitions for the project and I haven't once heard anything about any $10. I guess this guy calls my neighbors and co-workers special-interest groups. Now for the truth.

Hometown Democracy is not a special-interest group but a grass-roots organization that wants Martin County (and all of Florida) to be able to tell developers "no" about land use changes that the politicians and developers keep saying "yes" to. We basically have seen what it looks like when you bullldoze all the green space and pour concrete over it.

This "special-interest group" wants to tell developers its our county and the majority wins — not those with the most money. Go to www.floridahometowndemocracy.com, print out the petition and mail it in (signed).

What good is money if you have to live in a dirty, traffic-jammed town consisting of fast-food joints, banks, and more banks and strip malls? You can experience this in Los Angeles, as that's all you see for hundreds of miles driving from Santa Barbara to San Diego. If that's what Floridians want, then they will vote for it. And that's all we're asking for.

You are the scam, Mr. Ferguson. There are other ways of making business. Why aren't we concentrating on blighted areas that need development instead of bulldozing what little woods we have left? There are plenty of ways to make money other than messing up the nest.

My last note of curiosity is the list of recommended books that were listed as a quick read. The list was a who's who in the extreme left wing of the socialist party.
